Beautifully Crafted Traditional and Same-Day Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are one of the best ways to repair damaged teeth. Also called caps, these tooth-shaped restorations cover the entire visible surface of the damaged tooth. Dr. Justin E. Tarver can place a custom-designed, expertly crafted crown to strengthen your teeth, restore dental functionality, and enhance your smile. Dr. Tarver offers a variety of beautiful and durable crowns, including same-day crowns that he creates and places in one office visit. Candidates for Dental Crowns

Dental crowns can address a diverse range of practical and aesthetic concerns:

  • A tooth with a large crack

  • A large cavity that is too severe for a routine filling

  • A weakened or otherwise damaged tooth

  • An intrinsically stained tooth that will not respond to teeth whitening

  • A worn or eroded tooth

  • An irregularly shaped or proportionately small tooth

Crowns are also used to support dental bridges. If you have a gap in your smile resulting from one or more missing teeth, Dr. Tarver can affix a bridge by crowning the natural teeth on either side to serve as anchors. Alternatively, a crown can restore one or more dental implants to replace missing teeth.

Same-day Dental Crowns

If Dr. Tarver determines that you would benefit from this procedure, he will carefully remove the damaged or decayed portions of your tooth. He may also remove a small amount of healthy tooth structure to create a stable base for your crown. In most cases, he will then take digital impressions using our state-of-the-art CEREC® machine. CEREC®, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is equipped with advanced computer software. The software will create a three-dimensional map of your tooth, which will guide an automated milling machine. The machine can then fabricate a beautiful and highly lifelike restoration in a matter of minutes. Dr. Tarver will attach the crown, and you can leave the office with a fully restored smile.

Lab-fabricated Crowns

In some cases, Dr. Tarver may recommend a traditional laboratory-made crown, especially if you need to restore one of your prominent front teeth. We proudly work with an outstanding dental lab to ensure durable and beautiful restorations. Our lab can create your crowns from a variety of restorative materials:

  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM): These crowns have a strong metal base and a composite shell, which will match the color of your teeth. Patients should understand that the metal may eventually start to show through.

  • All-porcelain: All-porcelain restorations are very lifelike. They can be custom-matched to your surrounding teeth, and they will not change color over time.

  • Zirconia: Innovative zirconia is widely considered to be the most lifelike restorative material. Zirconia is almost as strong as metal.
